On Friday, March 24th, Sunbar Tempe served as a dark portal into house and techno by hosting an incredible Drumcode event, boasting a stacked lineup of Oscar L, Layton Giordani, and Bart Skils. Drumcode is Adam Beyer’s techno label, and Tempe was a lucky stop for us house and techno lovers here in the Southwest desert of Arizona.
Sunbar itself is an intimate venue that feels like a club, with a sound system that overpowers the space. Walking in, your body feels not only the bass but also the anticipation of the whole night ahead. Local artist Alice.km kicked off the night with a spicy set that quickly built up the energy (and heat) in the room.

Oscar L
I can truthfully say I’m one of the world’s biggest fans of Oscar L. I’ve been following his trajectory for the past several years, ever since I first heard his banger “Monster Tube” played out at a small side stage at a festival. I felt like I had struck gold with that Shazam, and ever since, I’ve been playing his tracks out in my own sets. To see him live was basically an out of body experience.

Bart Skils
I honestly didn’t know much about this artist before the show, although I had listened to a bunch of his tracks in preparation of entering his curated vortex. His most popular track on Spotify, “Your Mind,” was easily recognizable as a classic, especially since it’s a collaboration with the Drumcode label owner himself, Adam Beyer.
Turns out, there’s nothing that could have prepared me for his set. He had a way of flowing through tension and release with his artful track selection and mixing techniques. A heater that sends me in particular is one of his latest releases, “Roll the Dice,” which you can listen to below.
Layton Giordani
Another artist whose music I certainly have on my USB, Layton Giordani is a name to watch. He closed out the night to a packed house with careful curation.
