What’s better than a techno cruise? A techno festival hosted by the very city where techno was born. It’s crazy to think about how much our taste in music has changed over the past few years. In 2016, we probably wouldn’t be gearing up for Movement Music Festival in Detroit next month. And here we are!
Festival Details
Over this Memorial Day weekend, May 25th to 27th, 2019, Detroit’s Hart Plaza will become home to thousands of techno-lovers and the occasional attendee who’s just there for Gucci Mane. Yes, although the lineup is primarily composed of techno and tech house artists, talent such as Griz, Gucci Mane, and Shigeto will also be performing.
Check out the full lineup below:
Claudia: Personally, I’m so excited to see Griz for the seventh time at Movement (even though I just saw him at Buku in New Orleans a couple weeks ago). He is never anything short of a party, and I think his set will be a nice switch-up in a day full of techno.
Movement Music Festival Artists to Watch
Patrick Topping
We’re also looking forward to catching the legend Patrick Topping now that we’re finally aboard the techno/tech house train. Just check out how fun the tracks off his latest EP, Watch What Ya Doing, are! We’re imagining ourselves lying on a bed of lasers while this one plays out:
Disclosure
Disclosure is another intrigue of the lineup; we’re not sure what to expect from their set. They’ve been switching it up with their latest releases compared to their 2015-2016 releases we’ve grown to love so much. Plus, the last time we’ve seen these guys live was at Lollapalooza Chicago in 2016.
You’ve probably heard this catchy tune before:
Golf Clap
We wouldn’t miss an opportunity to support our boys, Golf Clap, for the world! If you haven’t heard of them yet, let us do the honors of telling you about them. Not only do they throw down incredibly tasty sets, but they’re also some of the most down-to-earth guys in the game.
We’d love to drop all their live sets below for your listening pleasure, but since you’re about to see them live yourself at Movement, we’ll keep it to just their latest banger:

Chris Lake
And yeah, we’re excited for Chris Lake, to no one’s surprise. We probably didn’t even have to say it. Here’s some newly-released fire for you:
Movement Music Fest Expectations
So what has us most excited for Movement besides the music? All the hype surrounding the fest! We asked some of our friends and favorite artists what the best part of Movement is, and here’s what they had to say:
Rossi: “Movement offers a unique festival vibe to all who enjoy the electronic underground. The artists are hand picked to represent the hometown roots of Detroit and Chicago. Every year, thousands of fans come to enjoy a unique lineup that celebrates House and Techno. I fell in love with DEMF – the original name for Movement – as soon as I entered Hart Plaza. Be ready for a more mature and friendlier crowd right from the start. From the literal underground stage to the lake-side pyramid stage, you’ll find yourself dancing to the deep pulsating techno bass lines, enchanting melodies of soulful house, and the energizing bound of tech. There is a flavor for anyone that is in the know. Tie that with the plethora of high quality after parties spread out all over iconic Detroit venues and you have a world class festival that celebrates the history of the region it is set in. Movement is a must for any fan!”
Golf Clap: “Movement is the weekend that everyone comes together and you can see just how tight knit of a community the Detroit scene is, if just for a few days. It’s very Miami-esque in the respect that many places that aren’t usual spots are transformed into venues for the weekend. The true best part of it is the real estate it’s on: Hart Plaza boasts one of the most scenic views for a 30k cap festival all while executing at least five stages with minimal sound bleed. You can truly catch all the acts you want to see – it’s quite rare.”
Blayne: “I love Movement because the vibes the festival bring are unreal. You get that Detroit culture feeling just being in Techno City where there’s a lot of history. Also, the lineup is stellar. Plus, who doesn’t like being with your close friends and new friends in the heart of Techno City enjoying good music all weekend long?”
Chris Lake: “Well, honestly, I’ve never been to it but I’ve heard so much about it over the years, so I’m super excited to play it. I wish I’d been there before.”
From the sounds of it, we (and YOU) are in for a real treat. If you haven’t grabbed your ticket already, get it here*.
