Rezz Rocks: A Certain Kind of Magic Indeed

Our day was off to an incredible start after waking up on National Breakfast Burrito day. The squad went to Santiago’s and got dollar burritos (yes, full-sized breakfast burritos for $1). We then continued to stuff ourselves with salted oreo, gingerbread, and vegan chocolate ice cream at Little Man’s, a cute shop in The Highlands.

Casey: I am somewhat of an ice cream connoisseur, and I kid you not, this was some of the best ice cream I have ever had. DO NOT MISS THIS while in Denver.

It was such a beautiful day – the sun was so strong we were sweating. We had no idea what we were in for later that night.

Arriving at Rezz Rocks

After meeting up with some friends, we journeyed over to Red Rocks. We danced outside the entrance, looking out over the scenery, as the sun started to set. It was then that we realized we were going to freeze.

Claudia: I knew I had messed up the minute I hopped out of our Lyft at Red Rocks and noticed the sun was already gone. I live here and know better but was still scammed right into that one!! Don’t worry – I made extremely quick work of a Busch latte and was feeling toastier in no time!

The energy was already incredible; we clearly weren’t the only ones who had been waiting for this night for months.

Bleep Bloop: The Signature Sound of the Night

Casey: I’ve never seen him before and didn’t know what to expect. I would describe his music as the soundtrack to an alien interaction, or an intergalactic exploration. Lots of bleeps and bloops. Perfect for the journey Rezz was about to take us on.

Tokimonsta

Casey: I’ve seen Tokimonsta a few different times, but this was definitely the most impressive set I’ve seen. Most of the artists at Rezz Rocks played the similar outer space sounding bleeps and bloops but Tokimonsta threw some different genres into the mix, including a house-y section, which we absolutely loved.

Unfortunately, for the majority of her set, we were upstairs nourishing ourselves with reindeer sausages. We even missed her dropping “Notorious” by Malaa! Luckily, we heard some of the song from the speakers in the bathroom (Red Rocks streams the live music to speakers in the bathrooms at the top of the venue).

Rezz: A Certain Kind of Magic

Usually, Rezz brings her otherworldly sounds to Earth, but tonight, she took us to outer space. One of our friends we had come with is a die-hard Rezz fan. She was bawling her eyes out crying, and it wasn’t long before we both started crying too.

Watching the silhouette of a tiny badass female completely own the crowd at her sold-out Red Rocks show, controlling us with her hypnotizing visuals, music and sheer influence, was the epitome of inspiration.

In that moment, the fact that we, too, have the power to succeed in our own mission with Backpacks and Beat Drops, struck us harder than ever.

Claudia: Needless to say, this was the hardest I’ve ever cried at a show.

An hour into the set, we climbed down into the crowd, seeking warmth, as the winds picked up and snow began to fall from the sky. There’s no way we were going to last until the end of the show in our thin jackets and cropped sweaters. With heavy hearts, we decided to call it.

Until the Next Rezz Show

The shows in the EDM scene have grown into so much more than just the music. You can expect a completely immersive experience, being taken on a ride inside the mind of Rezz at one of her shows. This girlie is going to be around for a while, continuing to do new, bigger and better things. We will always make it a priority to see her, and you should too!
